USAID and women’s union of Turkmenistan promote gender equality in Turkmenistan

January 25, 2024, Ashgabat, Turkmenistan – On January 24, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Governance Support Program (GSP), in partnership with the Women’s Union of Turkmenistan, hosted a seminar on strengthening gender equality opportunities for the members of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Central Council of the Women’s Union, and representatives of government agencies and universities.

USAID supports Turkmenistan’s commitment to building an inclusive and equitable society.  To support the goals outlined in the National Action Plan for Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, USAID equips national civil servants with valuable skills and tools to promote equitable gender norms.

Turkmen civil servants learned global best practices in developing and supporting strategies for gender equality within the national context.  Exploring global models, the participants reflected on mechanisms for ensuring gender-sensitive decision-making, preventing gender discrimination, and implementing best practices of gender mainstreaming as an instrument of social policy.  Through such collaboration, USAID GSP strengthens the role of women in Turkmenistan’s development and empowers them to actively participate in decision-making processes and contribute to economic growth.

The USAID-funded Governance Support Program, implemented by Q2 Impact LLC (formerly The QED Group, LLC) in partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan, aims to strengthen accountability, effectiveness, and transparency of governance in the country.
